Ambassador Eldad Kanyanya Wapenyi (77) was on Saturday laid to rest at Namyoya village in Nabbaale Sub County, Mukono District.

Mourners pay their last respect to Ambassador Eldad Wapenyi.
Venerable Kabuuka Bogere, the Arch Deacon for Bukoba Arch Deaconry who led the funeral service asked mourners to emulate Wapenyi’s good deeds as an all time servant who served his country whole-heartedly.
“Wapenyi could have had Jesus as a personal saviour during his time of service in several government positions. He was not cited in any act of abuse of office which is so rampant with the present day public servants,” Bogere said.
Bogere blamed Ugandans today who are so taken up by the riches to the extent of stealing dead people’s property which could have benefitted widows and orphans.
“We are guests and travellers on earth. Remember you are buried and leave all the riches whether obtained in good faith or not. Imagine here, some unidentified people have been reported to have robed Wapenyi’s wardrobe and went away with his clothes. This is so ridiculous,” he said.
David Wapenyi, the son to Ambassador Wapenyi, said that his father’s death came two weeks after he buried his daughter, Dr. Helen Khahasa Wapenyi.
Ambassador Wapenyi died last Monday at his home in Muyenga, a Kampala Suburb. He was born to William Woniaye and Elizabeth Seera Musubika in Gulu and his ancestral roots were in Mbale.
Ambassador Paul Etyang of Foreign affairs described him as a strong man who was always straightforward.
“He had a rightful sense of humour and he could always speak his mind. Wapenyi also served God in sincerity,” Etyang said.
Wapenyi is survived by three children; two boys and a girl. In 2012, he was elected Chairman of the Uganda Foreign Service Association and was also chairman of the Senior Golfers Association of Uganda Golf Club.
