Norwich - Norwich City remain in the Premier League's bottom three after being repeatedly thwarted by former goalkeeper David Marshall in a 0-0 draw with Cardiff City on Saturday.
Marshall, who left Norwich in 2009, produced a succession of saves to keep the hosts at bay and when the Canaries did find the net in injury time, through Leroy Fer, the goal was not given.
The result leaves Norwich third from bottom, although they trail West Ham United and Stoke City on goal difference, while Cardiff, managed by another Norwich old boy in Malky Mackay, climbed to 15th place; a point above the relegation places.
Norwich manager Chris Hughton kept faith with the team beaten 4-1 at Arsenal last weekend, but Mackay brought Kim Bo-kyung and Fraizer Campbell into the Cardiff team that went down by the same scoreline at Chelsea.
There were chances for both sides in an open-ended first half at Carrow Road.
Norwich left-back Martin Olsson shot narrowly off target from 25 yards, before Cardiff centre-back Steven Caulker went close with a header and home goalkeeper John Ruddy had to save from Jordon Mutch.
As the half progressed, it was Norwich who began to dominate, and after Robert Snodgrass shot wide from eight yards, Jonny Howson threatened and Fer saw a goal-bounded volley blocked by Peter Whittingham.
A snapshot from full debutant Gary Hooper tested Marshall and although Kim worked Ruddy from distance, Norwich were soon back on the attack.
Marshall did well to repel a 25-yard strike from Howson and then displayed electric reflexes to thwart Howson and Hooper in quick succession.
Mackay introduced Don Cowie and Aron Gunnarsson at the interval, but Norwich continued to push, with Hooper glancing a header narrowly wide.
However, they could find no way past Marshall, who produced a near-post block to thwart substitute Nathan Redmond and then unleased another excellent save to keep out a header from Fer in injury time.
The ball did find its way into the Cardiff net amid controversial circumstances at the death, but a goal was not given.
After Alexander Tettey went down injured, Fer elected to shoot rather than return possession to Cardiff, who had put the ball out of play, but although a goal was initially given, the officials eventually overturned their decision
