FORMER Commander of Traffic Police Unit, Mr James Kombe (SACP)
FORMER Commander of Traffic Police Unit, Mr James Kombe (SACP), died in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, the police spokesperson (SSP), Mr Advero Senso, said.
Mr Senso said that Mr Kombe died at Ocean Road hospital in the city while undergoing treatment. Funeral arrangements are underway.
Born in 1950 at Mwiko area, Kilimanjaro Region, the late Kombe joined Tanzania Police in March 1970 after completing high school in 1969 in Uganda.
According to Mr Senso, the late Kombe has served in various posts in the police force and he was once a police Sergeant in 1973. He also served as an Assistant Police Inspector in 1977 and Inspector of Police in 1984 after which he became the Commander of Field Force Unit (FFU).
In 1989, Mr Kombe became a Superintendent. In 1998, he was promoted to Senior Assistant Police Commissioner in 2002 until he retired in 2010.
The late Kombe also served as District Police Commander (OCD) in Dodoma, Tarime, Serengeti and Arusha and later became a Regional Police Commander in Lindi, Arusha and Kigoma regions.
