President Jakaya Kikwete.
PRESIDENT Jakaya Kikwete has said that the people do not want expensive council offices but rather hardworking, diligent and efficient public servants to serve them.
The president said this on Sunday when laying the foundation stone for the construction of the Njombe Town Council building at Mji Mwema in the outskirts of town.
“It is a good thing to have beautiful structures but the people want more than that. They want hardworking, diligent civil servants,” he said.
He observed that it is the duty of all public servants in councils to ensure that they find solutions to the people’s problems and complaints as part of fulfilling their responsibilities.
“I praise you for building a new building. It is a beautiful building that promotes the status of Njombe town, which is also the headquarters of Njombe Region.
“Efficient delivery of services to the public can only be possible when all public servants in this council and all others in the country will start working diligently, with integrity and by seeking tangible results out of their work,” he said.
President Kikwete is on a seven-day tour of Njombe Region where he has also launched several development projects.
