CULTURAL relations between China and Tanzania have been strengthened with Wednesday’s launch of two Chinese dramas that have been dubbed in Kiswahili.
Broadcasting of the two productions are scheduled to begin on November 4 this year through the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation’s (TBC) television channels.
The dramas entitled, “Maisha ya Mama” (Mother’s Life) and “Matumaini ya Baba” (Father’s Hope), have used Chinese actors but have integrated Kiswahili voices from local artistes.
Mohamed Kaboba, Omary Ahmed, Johari Mayoka, Hadija Chambasi, Abdui Masaida and Hilda Marcela are among the local artistes who have made this possible.
When launching these dramas yesterday, the Director of the Department of Culture in the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Prof Hermans Mwansoko, said they were not only good elements of the relationship between the two countries, but also for the artistes, who are involved in them.
“These dramas have opened a new door of collaboration between Tanzania’s and Chinese artistes and will develop the Kiswahili language further onto international levels,” he said.
TBC Managing Director Clement Mshana expressed his pleasure that the dramas have evolved from cooperation between the two countries, right from the production stage. He further said this was the second time for China to produce such dramas.
“The first one, “Dodo”, was aired by TBC last year. Then, the acting and voices were done by Chinese artistes,” Mshana said.
“This second time round they have involved Tanzanian artistes so as to get a better taste of the Swahili conversations.”
The Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Li Xuhang, praised the cooperation because it strengthens the culture and friendships of the two countries.
He also said the dramas will help local people understand the reality life in China and promised to give the TBC a broadcasting vehicle, to help improve their work.
