The Yaswanth Golden Pagoda of the Wathuruwa Rajamaha Viharaya in Sella Katharagama was declared open on Thursday at an event held under the auspices of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Yaswanth Golden Pagoda enters the history books as the first golden-plated pagoda in Sri Lanka.The electric lighting system surrounding the pagoda was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
President Rajapaksa also became the first individual to make a floral offering to the newly- constructed pagoda.
The event was presided over by venerable Metaramba Hemaratana Nayaka thero who is the chief incumbent of the Sithulpauwa Raja Maha Viharaya.
