Africa, world praise Madiba

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has paid a moving tribute to the former President Nelson Mandela. Kenyatta joined other heads of state in paying tribute to Madiba. Kenyatta has described Madiba as "selfless and hardworking leader" and one the few exceptional leaders the world will never forget.

British Prime Minister David Cameron expresses his sadness at the passing of Nelson Mandela, and pays tribute to an extraordinary heroic figure.

The Swaziland Government has called on people of the World to strive for peace and reconciliation as former president Nelson  Mandela did.

Former President Thabo Mbeki who served under Mandela during his term as president has asked South Africans to continue the good work that Madiba started. Mbeki says Mandela never lost his strong commitment to freeing the people of South Africa.

"Absolute determination that whatever the cost to ourselves as activists South Africa must be free and South Africa must be this new society of all south Africans living together as equals without this terrible past of the division and the conflict and the racism, very committed to this."

Ivorians say African leaders need to learn more from Mandela, who was an exception on a continent with a bloody history of long-serving autocrats and violent coups. 

The Cuban Ambassador to South Africa Carlos Fernandez De Cossio says the world, including the Cuban people, have lost a true revolutionary.

The Norwegian Nobel committee has paid tribute to former president Nelson Mandela, calling him "one of the greatest names in the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize". Mandela received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 together with South Africa's president at the time, FW de Klerk.

    Madiba described as the father to all Mozambicans

Meanwhile, Mozambican television's political editor Simiao Phangwani has expressed his sadness about the passing on of Nelson Mandela. He described Madiba as the father to all Mozambicans.

“The reaction in Mozambique is of sadness as Mandela has been considered the father of Mozambique, as you know he married former minister of education and the former first lady of Mozambique this is a shock for many Mozambicans:” adds Phangwani.
