AU opens condolences book for Mandela

A book of condolences has been opened on Sunday at the Headquarters of the African Union (AU) in memory of former President Nelson Mandela. This allows AU officials and staff to pay their respects to the man most Africans consider as their hero.

Upon her return, the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, opened the signing of the condolence  book at the South African Embassy in Addis Ababa, followed by members of the Diplomatic Corps in Addis Ababa.

She also opened the signing of the condolence book at the AU headquarters in honour of the departed “Giant” as she described Mandela.

Meanwhile, the African National Congress (ANC) will lay out condolence books at its Johannesburg headquarters, all provincial offices and parliamentary constituency offices from Monday morning, it said.

ANC spokesperson, Jackson Mthembu said the offices of its alliance partners the SA Communist Party (SACP), the Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) and the SA National Civic Organisation (Sanco) would also lay out books for citizens to leave messages for former president Nelson Mandela and his family.

The books will be laid out from 9a.m on Monday.
