President Jacob Zuma says former president Nelson Mandela will be laid to rest on the 15th of December in Qunu, Eastern Cape.
President Zuma was addressing the nation at SABC Media Centre on Friday about funeral arrangements for Madiba. Zuma also stated that on 10th of
December there will be an official memorial service at FNB stadium, Johannesburg, and on the 11-13th of this month, the body of former statesman will be at Union Buildings.
The ANC has also planned a series of memorial services this week in honour of Madiba, ahead of his burial at Qunu on December 15th.
ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says the Mandela family and ANC NEC members will share memorial services throughout the country.
"They will select one or two or three memorial where they can send a member of the family. So the other memorial services will be run by the ANC. We will send the NEC members. On day nine, we'll be moving to Umtata. There will be a contingent of the NEC in Eastern Cape for the duration of the 10 days. But on the nine, we are all moving to the Eastern Cape."
Earlier, President Zuma accompanied by Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and members of the ANC NEC visited the Houghton home of Mandela.
The NEC members arrived in two busses. Mandela's Houghton home remains a hive of activity with people singing struggle songs. Madiba was 95 and will receive a state funeral.
