THE First Lady, Mama Salma Kikwete, has underscored the need for electricity connection among residents of Msinjahili Ward in Lindi District as the cost of kerosene is high.

She challenged them to do away with the fear that they will be looked at as people of high class should they have electricity in their houses saying electricity is cheaper compared to kerosene.

The first lady said the government is striving to improve people’s lives, including setting up electricity infrastructures to be generated by natural gas.

“It is therefore very important for the villages in which the natural gas electricity pipeline passes to tap that opportunity and connect electricity in their houses,” she said.

She said electricity is a source of development, noting that people should make sure they use the energy to attain economic development.

Mama Salma, who was opening the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) branches in the area, urged members to also ensure that they utilize the ongoing rains for cultivating crops for sustainable food reserves in the future.

She also urged women to vie for various leadership posts to be in a better position to speak about their problems and ensure proper policies are in place to address their needs.
