RETIRED President, Mr Benjamin Mkapa has challenged graduates to exercise patriotism instead of putting personal gains in the forefront.

The retired President made the remarks over the weekend while officiating during the Bishop Mihayo University graduation ceremony, adding that graduates must be judged by their reasoning and efficiency to serve the public without taking into account personal interests.

He said the public has the urge and need to address challenges they face due to the desire to develop but they should take the challenges cautiously.

“You have to exercise patience, otherwise you will be engulfed by the current trend where people need quick changes to their lives,” he said.

He added that they should work on the source of the problems and address them fully if they are to achieve the needed levels of development.

The university’s chancellor, Dr Juvenalis Asantemungu, said the university started in November 2010 with 885 students and 718 were conferred their bachelors’ degrees.

Dr Asantemungu urged Tabora residents to take up Masters degrees as they are offering evening classes especially for workers.
