Milan is wealthiest city in Italy, with residents earning an average yearly income of €36,252, followed by Rome with €30,543, according to figures from the Ministry of Economy.
Basiglio, an area near Milan, is the richest community in the country, with residents bringing in an average €53,589 a year, Milan Today reported.
“The mix of agricultural landscape and urban comforts are the reasons for Basiglio’s success; it’s an area popular with business people," Eugene Patrone, Basiglio’s mayor, told the newspaper.
Pavia comes in third place, with an average income of €30,308, followed by Padua (€29,914), Treviso (€29,645), Siena (€29,019) and Bologna (€28,809).
In the south, those living in the city of Lecce earn an average €26,835, followed by Bari (€25,877), Naples (€25,875) and Palermo (€25,612).
Surprisingly, a town in northern Italy is the least wealthiest in the country: people living in Valsolda, in the Lombardy province of Como, are among the lowest earners in the country with an average salary of €11,988.
