Newcastle 0-4 Tottenham: Adebayor and Co keep well travelled Spurs on course

Tottenham's impressive results on the road - they share the best away record in the Premier League with Arsenal - continued with a thumping 4-0 victory over Newcastle at St James' Park.

Emmanuel Adebayor netted a seventh goal in his last 10 games to open the scoring for Spurs after keeper Tim Krul failed to keep hold of Nabil Bentaleb's cross.

The Magpies continued to chase an equaliser in the second half before a lovely backheel from Paulinho allowed Adebayor to unleash a long-range effort. His shot was saved but it was the Brazilian who reacted quickest to the rebound to double the visitor's lead.

Spurs goalkeeper Hugo lloris pulled off a sensational save to deny Mathieu Debuchy a lifeline before Adebayor scored his second from a mishit shot and Nacer Chadli put the icing on the cake with a glorious late effort.

This is the first time that Tottenham have won at St James' Park for 10 years and the result keeps Tim Sherwood's side withing touching distance of the Champions League places.
