But his corpse wasn't discovered until the train, which can travel at 200mph, stopped some 25 miles later at the next station in Mulhouse.
"The body was found, stuck to the front right of the train, out of the driver's vision," a spokesman for national rail firm SNCF told The Local.
It's not yet clear if the man's death was accidental or whether he intended to commit suicide.
