Senior Uhuru/ Mzalendo journalist dies in Dar

A SENIOR editor with Uhuru and Mzalendo newspapers, Dunia Mzobora, died in Dar es Salaam aged 49.
The late Mzobora died suddenly at around 6am at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), where he was referred from Aga Khan Hospital in the city. The deceased’s brother, Mr Mussa, said Mzobora began complaining of not feeling well on Tuesday night at his home in Tabata Mawenzi and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital.

He added that while at Aga Khan the deceased shown no signs of improving and doctors decided to refer him to MNH where he passed away shortly after his arrival, as doctors were trying to save his life. The deceased is said to have undertaken his normal office duties on Tuesday and left when the paper was going to bed.

He was working as deputy chief sub-editor and on Tuesday he was acting as chief sub-editor. Reports from family members had it that he would be buried in Dar es Salaam today at Kisutu Cemetery.

Mzobora, who was born on April 6, 1964 at Mwandiga, in Kigoma District, Kigoma Region, joined Uhuru Publications Limited in 1989 as an intern after he had attained a certificate in teaching at Kasulu Teachers Training College, also in Kigoma Region.

Following his competence and a hard-working spirit, he was confirmed within one year and was promoted to a journalist. In 1992 he was promoted to a sub-editor of Mzalendo and Burudani under then chief sub-editor, Hamisi Mkwinda. He was subsequently promoted to journalist grade two in 1994.

In 1995 he joined the then Nyegezi Journalism College, now St Augustine University, in Mwanza where he attained an advanced diploma in 1998. He was then promoted to various positions.

Meanwhile, President Kikwete sent a condolence message to the Minister for Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Dr Fenella Mukangara, following Mzobora’s death.

Mr Kikwete said he personally knew the late Mzobora during his lifetime as a hard-working professional who performed his duties of informing, educating and entertaining the public by using his pen wisely and adhering to professional ethics.

“Following the death of Dunia Mzobora, I send you, Madam Minister (for Information, Culture, Youth and Sports) Fenella Mukangara, all employees of Uhuru Publications Limited and the entire media fraternity in the country, my condolences over the loss of a resourceful professional,” said the president.
