TANZANIA Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) has announced the mandatory Bid Round Data Package (BRDP) for deep offshore Blocks now available at a cost of 750,000 US dollars per package to bidders.

The mandatory BRDP for Lake Tanganyika North Block is available at a cost of 350,000 US dollars per package to the bidders.

Addressing a press conference in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, TPDC acting Director General, Ms Joyce Kisamo said that seismic programmes had already been completed in the deep offshore area including a seismic refraction survey.

She said that 14 gas fields have been discovered in Tanzania that include onshore fields as Songo Songo, Mnazi Bay, Mkuranga, Kiliwani-North and Ntorya.

Offshore fields are Pweza, Chewa, Chaza, Mzia, Jodari, Papa, Zafarani, Lavani and Tangawizi. Two fields, Songo Songo and Mnazi Bay are on production stream for domestic use.

"Construction of gas infrastructure in the country is underway. The project, which is implemented by the government of Tanzania through TPDC, includes construction of the longest gas pipeline in Tanzania of approximately 542 kilometres and 36 inches in diameter," she said.

According to Ms Kisamo, the gas infrastructure project will also include construction of new processing facilities with capacity up to 210 mmscfd in Mnazi-Bay and up to 140 mmscfd in Songo Songo.

The new infrastructure will transport gas to meet the needs of the domestic Tanzanian market including power generation, domestic uses, petrochemicals and CNG for vehicles.

She added that Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants are also under consideration in the near future following significant offshore gas discoveries in Tanzania.

BRDP is available in Dar es Salaam during the entire bidding period in TPDC offices until when they will be opened on May 15, next year in Dar es Salaam.

Exploration in deep offshore Tanzania began in 1999 by acquiring speculative seismic data, which proved to be useful for Tanzania to license our deep offshore acreage.

"We have conducted three offshore licensing rounds previously. The current is the 4th one and unique, firstly done in Tanzania," said Dr Emma Msaky, TPDC Director of Exploration, Production and Technical Services.
