Former President Nelson Mandela’s neighbours in Qunu say they will form a guard of honour along the N2 near his house when his body arrives on Saturday and on Sunday during his funeral.
This is despite authorities saying that the funeral will be a private affair for only family, senior leadership and international dignitaries.
The neighbours say they are unhappy about the fact that they are not allowed to pay their last respects to the world icon on Sunday.
Mandela passed away at his Houghton home on Thursday last week.
The residents say they just want to thank Mandela for all that he has done for the community by attending his funeral and lending their support to his family.
